This is going to be my first blog since I got this site but it comes not too soon. I just want to speak very briefly on the Grammy's and there tendency to give us (Black People) the "consolation prize". Just recently, Kanye West and Mariah Carey were nominated for 8 Grammies each; and deservingly so due to the fact that they each had two of the highest selling albums of the year with several songs being amongst the highest in numbers of spins on radio stations "around the world". They were both nominated for Record of the year and Album of the year. I anticipated Kanye to win the record of the year and Mariah to win album but neither of them won in either category. Instead they gave Green Day the Grammy for Record of the year, even though there album came out 2, count them, T.W.O. years ago. And album of the year went to U F*ckin 2. Um, by so of hands, who know that U2 even had a album out? Exactly, only the older white folk (mainly men) that were around when their first album came out and are still member of the academy. Here’s a thought, when judging artist in an industry that is forever changing maybe the age range of the majority of the judges should change every decade.
Now some of you might be saying, “Yo, they did get the Grammies for Best rap album and best R&B album though, right,” but when your albums are do the best and play the most, in the United States (not overseas), one should win the top honors and not be given the consolation prizes in their respective genres. This is happening all too often where someone can be played constantly on the radio go several times platinum and still be named “Ms. Congeniality”. You might be saying, “Well, they’re millionaires. They’re not hurting at all by not winning a Grammy.” But, just think how you would feel working for months, neglecting family, fighting with the label for songs you believe in and coming up with a finished product that you think is awesome, beautiful and special. And then you are snubbed by the Good Ol’ Boys of the academy because they don’t like you or you already won once or twice or they are trying to sell everyone on the dream of the resurgence of rock. Even if their pockets aren’t hurting from the robbery doesn’t mean that you don’t want and appreciate the acceptance of your piers. Or, are they your pier…that’s a-whole-nother blog so I’ll digress.
Yes, I’m saying it (as though no body hasn’t already said it)… THE GRAMMIES ARE FULL OF SH*T!! And that is a sad and depressing truth to look forward to as an artist. It like Whoopi being nominated for The Color Purple but getting the Oscar for Ghost…It’s just wrong. I want the money, the ‘placks’, the accolades and the awards…and I mean the real ones ya’ll. You not naming me Ms. Congeniality while that other b*tch sachet across the stage with her Crocodile tears. It’s bad enough she hid my shoes…ooohhh, sorry. I blacked out right quick. Where was I…Oh yeah. Listen, they need to fix the system and stop making awards for people who don’t even deserve to be in the room (namely Ashanti). Real music deserves Real awards, not pats on the back. Kanye and Mariah deserved those awards and not the consolation prizes reserved for us black folk. All I know is that they better have it fixed before I get signed.

Baby O...Out!!
